Meet The Team

Kate Monaghan

Executive Producer & Managing Director

Kate started her TV life on children’s favourite Blue Peter as a researcher and was then headhunted to direct a half-hour documentary for Channel 4 as part of the New Shoots series for directors with a disability. Kate made her mark in the industry and became a Broadcast Hot Shot in 2010.

Seeing how difficult it was for media hopefuls, especially those with a disability, to gain entry into the industry, Kate set up Hey Sonny in 2007 and has been the key to its growth. Kate strives to promote inclusivity within the industry as well as creating awareness via Hey Sonny’s output of films.

Kate is a great mentor to all her employees and with a particular eye for storytelling Kate has directed many of Hey Sonny’s key commissions from CBBC’S BAFTA nominated My Life: Breaking Free to most recently CBBC’S The Racing Set, as well as numerous films for BBC Inside Out & Newsround.

Kate produced and directed our hour long documentary for for BBC Three’s disability season as well as our hour long for Channel 5 – the Boy With No Brain.  Kate has also directed several CBBC My Lifes and our returning Twin It To Win It series.

Kate was recently the Series Producer on our Channel 5 series The House of Extraordinary People and Directed on our RTS winning BBC Three documentary.

Kate is currently Executive Producing our latest CBBC My Life.

With a passion for disability awareness, Kate presents the BBC Ouch Podcast.
